Design concept away from the mainstream

The orthodontic practice of Dr. med. dent. Djamaseb moved to the newly built medical centre in Bad Rappenau in 2017. The aim was to creatively and constructively update the practice through expanded spatial capacities, infrastructural advantages and optimised work spaces. The architects of Mayer GmbH Innenarchitektur + Möbelmanufaktur, from Sulzfeld in the district of Karlsruhe, succeeded in designing and implementing a modern, timeless interior design concept away from the mainstream. The team of Mayer GmbH Innenarchitektur + Möbelmanufaktur specialises in practical furnishings and has applied for the ZWP Design Award 2020 for this project.

The core element of the premises are the central functional rooms, around which, run generously laid out traffic routes. These are fundamental to the fore-coming work structures and treatment routes.  In particular, the four separate treatment suites with a large glass façade, with sections of frosted glass framed in a wooden passe-partout offer staff and patients maximum privacy, a feel-good atmosphere and familiarity at the same time.

Communicative open-space areas invite staff and patients to linger as a waiting lounge with visual entertainment from monitors and extraordinary, staged photographic art.  Alternatively offering privacy, as a meeting room through a striking central glass cube.

Administrative and dental function rooms, such as offices, staff lounge, laboratory and X-ray room rounds off the room programme and have been ergonomically optimised to accommodate traffic whilst sustaining organisation.

The material and colour concept is a mix of sophisticated industrial style and Pop Art.  Matt white surfaces create an image of purity and contrast with royal oak furnishings. This modern play of colours harmonises with the colourful elements of Pop Art style in orange and violet. The dark lava-coloured island space gives the two colours room to shine and skillfully highlights the motivating quotes.

The matt black door handles from Karcher Design, which developed the trend colour Cosmos Black in 2017, only a few hundred metres away, also in Bad Rappenau, presents the ideal contrast to the colours matt white and natural oak timber. The deep black colour tone harmonises particularly well with the uniform black frames of the matt glass fronts, and makes a bold statement being skillfully utilised as glass door locks. The matt surface is both haptic and aesthetically pleasing when opening and closing the doors.  In 2019, the Cosmos Black finish won the coveted Red Dot Award in the category "Materials and Surfaces".  The Madeira ER45 door handle blends harmoniously into the overall appearance of the room. Using its combination of rounded and angular surfaces, it has a clear design vocabulary and compliments the simplicity of the surrounding space.

The washbasins in the treatment rooms, which were specially designed for this project, are another innovative element of the room. These stand freely in the room and are completely made of high-quality white Corian. A special feature here is the corresponding counterpart hanging from the ceiling, which provides room for all relevant hygiene systems.

A discretely playful lighting system at the reception desk creates a friendly, warm welcome for the patient and radiates a pleasant ambience, which is the forefront of focus at every practice.

A well-balanced play of colours, a homely atmosphere created by oak furnishings, modern all-glass fronts and clear shapes contribute significantly to the simple overall ambience of the practice. An architectural masterpiece based on space and simplicity coupled with full attentive focus on the patients comfort and wellbeing.
