Tower Bridge London – A Landmark Project for Karcher Design GmbH
One of the most outstanding projects was the collaboration with architects for the exclusive 5-star residential project “One Tower Bridge” in the heart of London in 2014.
For this iconic building, Karcher Design developed a special door handle model that not only had to suit the exceptionally large doors of the luxurious apartments but also needed to reflect the elegant architecture of Tower Bridge. The handle’s clear, sleek design in matte stainless steel, along with the harmonious combination of robust and delicate elements, integrates seamlessly into the architectural aesthetics of the surroundings, highlighting the special significance of this project.
The design of this handle, which was combined with a flush-fitting rose, was created in close collaboration with the renowned architecture firm Conran & Partners. A central request from the architect was to enhance the handles with high-quality Oxford leather to offer a particularly luxurious feel. In the early development phase, various standard handles were redesigned and sent as plastic models to the architects for review. These models were either returned with suggestions for improvement or rejected, with close and regular communication playing a crucial role.
After several prototypes, the final design emerged: a wide, slender-profile handle characterized by slightly beveled contours and an elegant taper at the end. The finished model, refined with the finest Oxford leather, now adorns the doors of the exclusive apartments, blending harmoniously into the overall design of the prestigious “One Tower Bridge” project. This project impressively demonstrates how Karcher Design, through custom solutions and close collaboration with architects, develops innovative door handle models that combine aesthetics, functionality, and luxury.
