Karcher Design opens doors for alpinists in Zermatt

The Hörnlihütte in Zermatt is being restored by the architects Arnold Perren Zurniwen GmbH and our model Rhodes EPL28 on the Plan Design rose will be part of its new interior. This project is not just any mountain lodge: it was built 3260 meters above ground right next to the Matterhorn, one of the highest mountains in Europe.

What is now becoming one building has once been two neighbouring lodges. The old Hörnlihütte originally raised in 1880 will merge with the former Belvédère. The area has been the main starting point for a significant number of mountaineers ascending the Matterhorn.

The main goals of the restoration include highly sustainable energy supply as well as improved sanitation and fire safety according to new European regulations. We are proud to support the project “Hörnlihütte 2015” with our products.
